After reading “Out, Out—” by Robert Frost, reflect on a time when you faced a dangerous or high-pressure situation that demanded your complete focus. What made the situation risky, and how did your concentration affect the outcome?
Prompt Response: A time i was faced with a high pressure situation was a time when i had to walk through a portion of a small marsh that was swarming with bugs. It doesn't sound like that big of a deal to someone who's not as scared of bugs as me but my unfortunate and very severe irrational phobia of insects has caused me many serious issues such as panic attacks and extreme anxiety that could last for hours after an encounter with insects. I had to walk through the marsh that was swarmed with flies, mosquitoes, and knats. Like it was so bad that the greenery around it was blocked out by the bugs. The only way i could get through was by covering my ears and very intensely staring at the ground. If i had not been focused on not freaking out i would have probably had tripped in the march and gotten hurt or worse possibly have a panic attack in the middle of the swarm of bugs which would make it way worse. Despite getting through the marsh i did unfortunately have a panic attack almost immediately upon being out of the marsh. It slowed my group down for 2 hours as i needed time to calm down and regain myself before i could continue the hike.
