In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:  Well Ive heard many crazy news stories (usually in Florida) One crazy news story that i remember was when earlier sometime this year there a was a story about a lady who had a religious psychosis breakdown and went online and told people that the rapture or some other christian doomsday thing was happening and a few days later she walked out into the middle of a highway and was killed but also caused a major car crash. It stood out to me because as a agnostic person its so strange and frightening to me seeing how certain people especially mentally unwell people who happen to be religious will claim to be peaceful and to love everyone while at the same time doing something like spreading paranoia online and intentionally causing a car accident that lead to the death of themselves and other people. I know that religious people will disagree with me but considering that there are thousands of religions in the world, all religions were created by humans as a way for p...

Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

Prompt Response:  A place that holds deep memories for me is my houses backyard. We used to have this giant trampoline in our backyard that me and my brothers (and sometimes friends) would jump around, play in, or just hangout. When I think back to my very young days I used to think that the trampoline was huge because i was smaller but in recent years with my brothers becoming way older and the trampoline falling apart it doesn't seem as big anymore. I have mostly positive memories of the trampoline but i do have the occasional bad memory like for example when i nearly fell face first off the side of the trampoline. Summary: We read A Rose for Emily and answered questions about the text Reflection:  I learned more about analyzing short stories

Prompt: Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

Prompt Response:  Now i don't exactly remember if this word was in this lesson or the previous one but I specifically remember "flayed" being one of our vocab words and as a lover of horror media Ive seen that word in many different forms of media. Seeing it on screen obviously made me understand the definition a lot more but reading descriptions of it in book also allows for a better understanding of the word Summary: We worked on our lesson 2 vocabulary Reflection:  I learned some new words from our vocab

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Prompt Response:  Growing up neurodivergent i didn't understand a lot common phrases used in both writing a talking because in my brain I would take everything to seriously, like if you said "im so hungry i could eat a horse" i would have legitimately thought that you wanted to eat a horse. So its more of just learning how to interpret certain "common" phrases that are used that aren't very literal instead of just one specifically Summary: Reflection:

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

Prompt Response:  Something that my parents forbade me from doing growing up was cursing, saying any bad words was completely not allowed for me or my brothers. Its an ironic thing tho cuz both of my parents swear like sailors and have been swearing around me my whole life so i don't exactly understand why it was so bad Summary: We read and analyzed The Rockpile Reflection:  I learned ore about short stories

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Prompt Response:  My father is more disciplined than my mother. My fathers strictness has lead to my extreme levels of anxiety and paranoia. It also often causes me to take a strict leadership role when necessary. Summary: We worked on our presentations today in class Reflection:  Doing this presentation has taught me more about short stories and their authors
