As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response: In issue I think I'll have to debate more is how people cant understand how my brain works very differently than the average persons, for some reason people will be told over and over again that having certain mental disorders that I have is going to make me act and perceive things differently. It doesn't matter how many times I try to explain it some people will just refuse to try and accept me with and my neurodivergency Summary:  Today we took notes and did an assignment on the different types of claims Reflection: I learned about the 3 main types of claims and what situations to properly use each type of claim with

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response: A truth I was afraid to accept is that in order for me to properly exist in schools and society in general I have to take multiple medications. I can't properly do school without my ADHD and other meds and interacting with people in social settings is difficult whenever I dont take my meds Summary: Today we discussed ethos pathos and logos in arguments Reflection: I learned about how people making arguments will commonly apply either ethos, pathos, or logos to make their argument better

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response: A fear I have overcome is funnily enough the fear of monsters in my basement, my basement is very messy and is just used as storage in my house so even when its light you cant see everything and it makes me feel like there's something hiding in it. My room directly faces the door to the basement ever since I moved rooms so I am the person who always has to go get something for someone so just overtime I got less and less scared of something being in the basement both when the light is on or off. Summary:  Today we worked on assignment were we read an article and had to identify different claims that were made in the article Reflection:  I learned how to spot claims throughout articles and how to go about categorizing them

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  There are many times in my life where I was judged unfairly, but the most common and honestly aggravating is when I'm judged and people make assumptions about me for being the youngest child in my family, its especially common in my family where they just think that I'm immature or useless just because I'm the youngest. Others who aren't even in my family will just assume that I'm the favorite child of my parents 3 children just because I'm the youngest or that I'm spoiled or am a brat simply for being born after my brothers. Summary: We worked on a common lit assignment about how fear is a way our minds create stories Reflection:  I learned about how fear shouldn't be treated as a bad thing but that its another form of imagination and storytelling

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Prompt Response:  Im sure this is a pretty common feeling but for the first month or two of highschool I felt like a big interloper in lakeside. I left 8th grade halfway through the year so I separated from my normal friends for a few months and when I finally came back to normal public school and my old friends I didn't see all of them and for the first semester of freshman year I literally ate lunch completely alone not talking to anyone. I eventually made new friends and reconnected with my middle school friends but in the time before that I felt really alone and like an intruder in public school. Summary:  We worked on the interlopers common lit assignment Reflection:  I learned more about writing implications in stories about antagonize between two main characters

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response:  I would be curious to know about how their strong connections to Christianity has merged with their practices that come from pre-colonial practices. I want to know which traditional values/actions/beliefs stem purely from strong Christian influences, which come from a mix of christian and pre-colonial practices, and which are just pre colonial practices. Many of my Hispanic friends are heavily Christian but their particular Christian beliefs vary from my black and white friends Christian beliefs. Summary: We discussed thesis statements and talked about things we think are overrated and how we support our arguments Reflection:  I learned what other people find overrated and how to defend what you find overrated to other people

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt Response:  first word I think I will find myself using is Amoral because a. Ive already used it many times in both writing and speaking and b. I really like writing about human and animal physiology and amoral is used a lot in those topics. second word I will find myself using is affinity as I find it a better way to describe mildly liking or loving something  without just saying "like" or 'love".  And finally I think I'll find myself using amorphous because its commonly used in a lot of horror writing and descriptions which is my favorite genre of any type of content and its usage allows for a lot of interpretation from readers. Summary: We learned about the steps of making a essay Reflection:  In class we learned more about how to write the brainstorming for an essay

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt Response:  Well I don't particularly like writing poems I don't know why but it just doesn't work in my head but if I had to pick a part it would be what I'm actually writing the poem about aka the extended metaphor of the poem Summary: We began working on our poem and went over aspects of a poem Reflection:  I learned more about how to properly form a poem and which things to come up with first

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

Prompt Response:  The most absurd moment in my life was when I went rafting down a river and this river had a straight waterfall drop that was twice the length of the raft we were on and our raft basically went from horizontal to vertical in less then 2 seconds. The person in the very back of the raft actually flew off but we had no idea until we got a little ways away from the waterfall because when your on the fall all of the water surrounds you and you cant hear or see anything else except the water. Summary:  We looked over, annotated, and discussed as a class the poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity" by Lawrence Ferlinghetti Reflection:  I learned about the similarities between how an acrobat performs and how a poet writes and presents themselves through the words of a poet.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Prompt Response:  A song that represents my life right now is "New God" by Moon Walker as it talks about how our parents try to form us and how we replace certain authority figures in our life with new "better ones". If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Prompt Response:  It would fall into the topic of "Contemplation", my overall life message would be about how much of our lives we spend overthinking what actions and path we will take. Its based off of my anxiety, it tends to take over my mind whenever I need to make a decision and has caused me problems and prevents me from doing things I want to do. Summary: We finished our Dickinson Soundtrack and began working on our Dickinson Quote Analysis Reflection:  I learned how to analyze, categorize, find the theme, and identify the conflict of a quote

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response:  The class has been going just fine so far. all of the assignments have been relatively easy and I've even enjoyed a couple of them especially creating a myth (that was really fun). The longer periods have allowed me to complete all my work in class and I haven't worried about not completing an assignment or having to work on it at home. In class time feels instructional and like I'm actually learning something and not just sitting at my desk bored. I do wish I was able to sit closer to my friends but other than that its been an enjoyable first few weeks in your 5th period class (also A lunch is goated). Summary: we began working on our Dickinson soundtrack assignment Reflection:  I learned how to connect a song and its lyrics to the words and meanings of a poem
